Chauntel Janay Herrod

The Behavior Change Boss

My name is Chauntel Janay Herrod and I’ve spent much of my career—and honestly, much of my life—being curious about people, why we do what we do, and what helps us change.Professionally, I’ve coached thousands of people across different ages, backgrounds, circumstances, and stages of life. I’ve supported people working on their health, navigating major transitions, changing long-standing habits, making difficult decisions, building confidence, starting over, and figuring out what they want next. But my understanding of change doesn’t only come from my professional experience.I’ve been an athlete, a coach, a student, a corporate professional, a leader, a mentor, and an entrepreneur. I’ve changed careers, gone back to school, earned new certifications, built businesses, pursued big goals, changed my mind, outgrown things that once worked for me, and had to figure out what the next version of my own life was going to look like.I’ve also learned a lot through relationships.Family relationships, friendships, romantic relationships, professional relationships, and the relationship I have with myself have all taught me that connection doesn’t just happen—we learn how to build it, maintain it, communicate within it, set boundaries around it, repair it, and sometimes decide when something no longer works. Those lessons matter at home, but they matter in business too. So much of life comes down to how we understand people, how we communicate what we need, how we navigate differences, and how we build relationships that can actually hold what we are asking of them.I’ve also had my own journey with weight—in more ways than one. There is the physical weight we carry in our bodies. There is also emotional weight, mental weight, responsibility, expectations, stress, old stories, and all the things we can carry for years without realizing how heavy they have become. That is one reason I have such a genuine interest in supporting people with weight-loss goals.Sometimes the goal is physical weight loss. Sometimes it is releasing a way of thinking, a pattern, a relationship dynamic, an expectation, or an emotional burden that no longer serves you. And sometimes those things are deeply connected.I know what it feels like to be ambitious and still feel stuck. To know better and not always do better. To have a plan and then have life interrupt it. To realize that something you worked hard for no longer fits. To want more for yourself without having every detail of “more” figured out yet. That’s part of why I believe so deeply in coaching. We live in a world with more information than most of us could ever use. There are books, podcasts, plans, programs, experts, and endless advice telling us what we should do.And yet, knowing what to do and figuring out how to make it work in your life are two very different things. That gap is where I do my best work.I’m a National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC), Certified Personal Trainer, Certified Nutrition Coach, and trained behavior-change professional with a master’s degree in Kinesiology and an MBA. My work has also included training and mentoring coaches, developing coaching programs, and helping organizations translate behavior science into practical support for real people. But credentials are only part of what I bring into the room.I’m curious. I listen closely. I ask a lot of questions. I notice patterns. I can usually find the thing underneath the thing. And after years of talking with people from early adulthood through later stages of life, I’ve learned that while our circumstances may change, many of the questions underneath them are remarkably familiar:What do I want now? What am I carrying that I’m ready to put down? What relationships need more attention, different boundaries, or a different way of showing up?What is getting in my way? What am I ready to change? What still fits me—and what doesn’t anymore? And what do I want the next part of my life to look like? Those questions can show up at any phase of life.My job is not to to tell you what the answers should be.My job, through the art of coaching, is to give you the space to hear yourself more clearly, understand your patterns, challenge what is no longer working, make intentional decisions, and build a way forward that belongs to you.Sometimes that means creating a new habit. Sometimes it means losing physical weight. Sometimes it means putting down emotional or mental weight. Sometimes it means learning how to navigate a relationship differently, pursuing a goal, making a decision you’ve been avoiding, or changing direction completely. And sometimes you just need a place to talk through what the hell is going on before you can figure out what comes next. That’s why I created Teltalks and The Behavior Change Boss.A place for thoughtful conversations, meaningful change, and support for the space between knowing what you want and actually living it.

About CoachingChange is rarely just about knowing what to do.You can know you want to lose weight, set a boundary, leave a situation, improve a relationship, make a career move, take better care of yourself, or finally follow through on something you have been thinking about for years—and still struggle to make it happen. That does not always mean you need more information.Sometimes you need space to think. Sometimes you need accountability. Sometimes you need help understanding the pattern underneath what keeps happening. Sometimes you need to sort through what is yours to carry, what you are ready to put down, and what needs to change next. That is where coaching comes in.Behavior change coaching helps close the gap between knowing what you want and actually living it.It is a collaborative process that helps you understand where you are, get clearer about where you want to go, identify what may be getting in the way, and create realistic ways to move forward. And the change we work on can take many forms. It may be physical—losing weight, improving your health, becoming more active, or building habits that support the way you want to feel in your body.It may be mental or emotional—releasing old beliefs, reducing the weight of expectations, changing how you respond to stress, or learning how to stop carrying things that no longer belong to you.It may show up in your relationships—communicating more clearly, setting boundaries, understanding recurring patterns, navigating conflict, building healthier connections, or deciding what kind of relationships you want to cultivate at home and in your professional life.Or it may simply be that you know something in your life needs to change, but you are not completely sure what that change looks like yet.Coaching gives us room to figure that out. What Coaching With Me Looks LikeMy approach is grounded in motivational interviewing, behavior change science, reflective listening, values exploration, goal-setting, accountability, relatable story-sharing, and collaborative problem-solving.That may sound technical. In practice, it means we talk.I listen closely. I ask questions. We notice patterns. We figure out what matters to you. We look at what is working, what is not, and what you are ready to do differently.Sometimes we create a plan.Sometimes we challenge an old assumption.Sometimes we slow down a decision.Sometimes we talk through the thing underneath the thing. And sometimes we discover that the goal you started with is not actually the goal you want anymore. You can expect coaching to be practical, honest, personalized, and centered around your life—not a formula I expect you to fit into. You Are the Expert on Your LifeYou bring your experiences, values, strengths, history, circumstances, and goals into the conversation. My role is to help you hear yourself more clearly, ask questions you may not have considered, help you recognize patterns, and support you in turning insight into action - not tell you what to do.Because lasting change is not just about getting to a goal.It is about developing the awareness, skills, confidence, and ability to continue navigating your life long after our coaching relationship ends.Whether you are 22, 42, or 72, there will always be another decision, transition, relationship, goal, or version of yourself to navigate. The goal of coaching is not to make you dependent on a coach. It is to help you become better equipped to navigate what comes next.
